You can learn to take better care of your health and to embrace attitudes and emotions that contribute to healing. When facing a physical challenge, life coaching can contribute to your sense of hope, well-being, and empowerment.
How Can the Coaching Process Foster Health and Healing?
Research confirms that attitudes and emotions can greatly affect your health. Life coaching will first help you to realize that your illness or disability does not define you. Certainly, the daily stress of living in our culture can present added difficulties. However, through a process of self-discovery, Marcia can assist you in finding the courage and strength to more skillfully manage health challenges. As you begin to accept the reality of your body, you can come to accept yourself. New ways of thinking and feeling about your situation and new creative ways of living can occur.
Is Support Available to Caregivers and Family Members?
Absolutely! You, too, can learn to maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes providing responsible care to loved ones and good self-care for you. Caregivers often lose sight of their own well-being. You may feel overwhelmed, guilty, or mentally and physically exhausted. Personal coaching helps you gain the skills needed to restore the balance in your life.
What does Marcia’s Experience Include?
Prior to becoming a life coach, Marcia Grimsley had extensive experience working with disabled and chronically ill adults. Marcia’s background enables her to bring unique qualities to the coaching process.
During her graduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, Marcia elected to include courses in chronic illness and disability for non-medical professionals at the Medical College of Virginia. Later, while living in Texas, Marcia worked as a staff supervisor and social worker for various local and state agencies providing services for this population. Here she worked with healthcare providers, facilitated support groups, and individually counseled clients and their families.
Returning to Virginia as a life coach, Marcia held a free family caregiver’s support group at the Mary Washington Healthcare Center in Fredericksburg for a year.
Today, Marcia serves as a member of the Integrative Medicine Program of the Mary Washington Healthcare Regional Cancer Center.
